La Femme a L' Orchidee by Edgard Maxence
Entitled La Femme a L' Orchidee - apparently the model for this picture was the youngest daughter of the maker of Job cigarette papers (hence the cigarette). Maxence often enriched the surface of his works with gold or silver foil and gilt plaster relief and this picture has some kind of texture added to the surface beneath the paint. The frame measures 35 inches by 29 inches and the picture measures 17 inches by 22 inches. Signed and dated 1900.
Edgard Maxence, French painter. He was a pupil of Jules-Elie Delaunay and Gustave Moreau at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and helped to popularise Symbolism in the 1890's. See more details of Maxence on my Sculptors and Artists page.

French Water Colour
Original 1920's French water colour. Indistinctly signed and inscribed to the bottom - reads something about indiscretion. Framed in a contemporary black wooden frame. There is an old small tear to the inner grey mount which is not on the picture, otherwise condition is good.

Photogravure by Walery
This original photogravure was published in Paris in 1923 by Laryew. Because of the nature of his photographs, (which were considered very risque to say the least in the 1920's) - he published them in his pseudonym which was Laryew. Walery was just a re arrangement of the letter in his name. Many artists did this at that time. He was a Lithuanian artist born in 1863, he moved to Marseilles and then on to Paris following in his fathers footsteps as a photographer to the rich and famous. Whilst in Paris he befriended Josephine Baker and photographed the girls of the Folies Bergere. He is considered by many to have been a true master of art deco photography. I have several of these photogravures and apparently all the ladies in them were dancers from the Folies Bergere, each one is signed Laryew in pencil and numbered with a Roman numeral. It is interesting to note that many of the poses in these pictures are similar to the poses of statues of this same period. It is easy to see where the statuary artists got their inspiration from. They are printed on thick card that measures 12.75 inches by 9.75 (32cm x 25). Condition is vintage but very good as they have been kept in a thick protective sleeve. You can take them as they are and get them framed yourself or I can frame them for you in a contemporary frame. Unframed £135 each or framed £150 each.
