Lady & Deer by Demetre Chiparus
A large French spelter group by the very famous Demetre Chiparus. The lady has a green patina with bronze dress colouring and is kneeling on a Belgian Black marble base that measures 29.5 inches long, the height is 16.5 and depth is 5 inches (75cm x 42 x 13). Demetre Chiparus was born in Romania on 16th Sept 1886, he later studied, worked and lived in Paris. He studied under A. Mercier and J. Boucher. He exhibited at the Salon in 1914. He is the most famous of the deco artists and is considered the pioneer of the Art Deco Chryselephantine bronzes technique used during the 1920's and 30's. He made pieces in many mediums including bronze, bronze and ivory (Chryselephantine) spelter, terracotta and plaster.
