Rare Eiffel Tower Table Lamp
French metal art deco table lamp in the shape of the Eiffel Tower. Built on the Champ-de-Mars, in the centre of Paris. The commission was granted to Eiffel et Compagnie, a consulting and construction firm owned by the acclaimed bridge builder, architect and metals expert Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel. While Eiffel himself often receives full credit for the monument that bears his name, it was one of his employees, a structural engineer named Maurice Koechlin, who came up with and fine-tuned the concept. Several years earlier, the pair had collaborated on the Statue of Liberty’s metal armature. In 1889, Paris hosted an Exposition Universelle (World's Fair) to mark the 100 year anniversary of the French revolution. This model table lamp was made in or around 1920. It bears the dates 1789 and 1889 to either side of the upright support arms. To the top is an old - possibly original - blue glass domed dish shade with green and gold beading fringe detail. It looks stunning when lit. It measures 29 inches tall and the base measures 10 inches square (74cm x 25.5cm). Condition is very good with just one tiny star arm bar missing to the second level on the left had side front. This is barely noticeable. A very rare find indeed.
