Plaques

A selection of plaques, wall mounted and free standing, including terracotta, plaster and metal items.

Follies Bergere plaque by Maurice Picaud (Pico)
This plaque is made of Gesso (plaster) and measures approx. 26 inches square. It is made from a cast which was taken from the entrance porch of the Follies Bergere Building in Paris in 1926, which depicts the dancer Nickolska. The original is of concrete and was designed by Picaud. These plaques were made in a limited number for commemorative purposes and distributed as gifts to the members of Picos family, and apparently for sale to patrons of the theatre. The amount made is unknown to me. It is gilded in very high relief, and is mounted in a quality frame of oak which is very heavy. The condition is good with some minor ageing as one would expect. This is a very rare opportunity to own one of these stunning plaques.
This one now sold but I am negotiating the purchase of another.

Large Carved Wood Plaque
This chunky carved oak plaque is either French or Belgian and is very similar to my logo on my homepage which is by Marcel Bouraine. This plaque measures a large 17 inches (43cm) in diameter and approximately 3 inches thick (8cm). The central face is surrounded by stylised flowers with some silver and gold highlighting still visible. Condition is very good although there is a central line which runs vertically, which is the original joint between the two halves of wood. A lovely and very rare item which is fitted with a metal hanging hook on the reverse. £2500

Pico Plaque in Silver
Only the second one I have seen in silver, and very nice it is too. It has cleaned up nicely and with the oak frame in good condition, but some wear to the silvering - what you would expect for its age. Although I have seen several of these plaques without its brass name plaque to the bottom, this one looks like it has at sometime had a plaque attached, as there are a couple of screw holes, indicating a missing plaque. approximately 25 inches square (64cm). This one sold, but I have bought another pico and it should be arriving soon.

Silver Sade Plaque
Based on the original design by Marcel Bouraine for the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Decoratifs - this wall plaque is made of gesso and applied with silver leaf. Professionally framed and mounted in a black satin finish stepped wood frame. It measures nearly 30 inches square (75cm). I have used the original design on my website and company stationery for some time now and have therefore named her Sade - an abbreviation of Sheryls Art Deco Emporium. Available in a limited edition. This plaque is large and quite heavy (10.5 kg) and would need to be collected, personally or by a shipping agent, as it is too fragile and heavy to post.
